The Bondage Master (縄師事件簿, Nawa Shi Jikenbo), also known in the West as Rope Detective, is a 1996 Japanese V-Cinema erotic thriller directed by Hitoshi Hoshino (Jin Hoshino) and starring cult regular Yukijirō Hotaru. For kink-film viewers it sits where rope fetish spectacle meets straight-to-video crime pulp: a nawashi-coded hero, signature ties as forensic clue, and a yakuza revenge subplot that keeps the bondage from pure softcore wallpaper.
Plot: Signature Rope as Alibi and Indictment
Shiro is the Bondage Master—a specialist whose technique with ropes and women is distinctive enough that others recognize his style on a bound body. When a model is found murdered and tied in that fashion, he becomes the obvious suspect. Clearing his name means hunting the real killer while dodging vengeance from the dead model’s yakuza boyfriend. V-Cinema economy at work: erotic craft as identity and trap, the detective plot forced through bondage tableaux rather than around them.

Japan saw a VHS release on 26 April 1996 from Tōhokushinsha. Central Park Media licensed it under Asia Pulp Cinema and issued an English-subtitled VHS on 26 September 2000, then a DVD with English audio on 8 June 2004. That dual Western window is why the picture still appears on fetish-cinema want-lists and “Japanese bondage on screen” roundups long after CPM’s catalog era.
