In Defeated, set during the brutal Middle Ages of Central Europe at the height of the Hundred Years’ War, Catherine and Marianne, the spirited daughters of Grand Duke de Villiers, are taken by their father’s rivals, the Valois. Taken as prisoners, the sisters endure a grueling march to the Valois fortress, where they witness the harsh treatment of their cousin Beatrice. Once respected and admired, the noblewomen now face intense hardship and loss of status under their captors’ control.

As they become participants in the Valois’ grim festivities, their ordeal deepens. Their fate takes a darker turn in a cruel lottery, where their futures are handed over to commoners seeking to upend their former noble standing. The sisters must summon their resilience to endure in a world determined to strip them of their dignity.
