Erotic Humiliation: Consensual Shame as Arousal

Erotic humiliation is consensual psychological humiliation done to produce erotic excitement. The bottom, the top, or both may get off on it. It can happen in private, in front of spectators, or through porn and webcam work. It may sit inside BDSM or sexual roleplay, with or without genital (or other) stimulation. The act itself need not be sexual; what people want is the feeling the scene produces. The person being humiliated usually feels submission; the person doing it feels dominance. At the same time the top’s words and moves stay inside limits the bottom already set, so the bottom is still steering the exchange.

Humiliation is subjective and context-dependent. Partners charge specific acts, objects, or body parts with a humiliating meaning—they do not carry that charge by themselves. Physical and ritual humiliation

Physical play can mean ejaculating, spitting, or urinating on the body—especially the face; “forced” anal penetration with dildos or plugs; servitude; “forced” oral service (cunnilingus, analingus, fellatio); micro-management with job lists and exact how-to; “real humiliation,” where the bottom carries out tasks involving people who do not know a dominant is directing them; and ritual displays of subservience—lighting cigarettes, walking a pace behind, speaking only when spoken to, eye-contact rules, kneeling or prostrating for orders, eating after others or on the floor, a low-status place to sleep.
