A dungeon monitor, sometimes called a dungeon master or DM, is the person charged with supervising a playspace (or dungeon) at BDSM events such as play parties and fetish clubs. The role is safety oversight while other people scene, not party hosting.
What dungeon monitors watch for
DMs supervise for consent problems, unsafe equipment use, medical distress, and house-rule violations. They may interrupt when a safeword is ignored, when impact or blood play exceeds venue limits, or when crowds block emergency access. Good monitors know the layout, first-aid kits, and cut-down tools, and they stop scenes without shaming clean play.
Why the role exists
Private play has partners only; public dungeons mix strangers and skill levels. A dedicated monitor owns the room rather than a personal scene. Hosts and guests should learn who the DMs are, respect stop calls, and treat them as essential safety staff, not optional decor.
