Dogma (ドグマ) is a small independent Japanese adult-video label based in Roppongi, Tokyo, known for hard fetish and extreme SM. Ordinary AV that chases a soft idol romance is not the point. The brand sits on confinement chairs, masochistic sensation, body fluids, and other edge genres. For people who follow Japanese BDSM and fetish, Dogma is one of the houses that made “hardcore fetish studio” its own market category in the 2000s. The catalog is performed by adults. It is not a how-to, and it does not involve minors.
The label started in February 2001 inside the Soft On Demand (SOD) group, run by the director Tohjiro. About a year later Tohjiro pulled Dogma out of SOD and made it an independent producer. He picked the name because he liked the sound of the word. The company is incorporated as OM Production, Inc. (株式会社オムプロダクション). Muneyuki Mikami (三上宗之) is chairman and chief executive. The studio is in Roppongi, where the adult business already clusters, with a real office and a shooting space rather than an anonymous suburban warehouse. It puts out about eight new titles a month, and Tohjiro directs about half of them. Downloads go through the company site. DVDs go out through Hokuto Corporation. Dogma also made a small run of T-shirts, including designs tied to the AV idol Kurumi Morishita.
The look, and the series that stuck
The library covers anal sex, bondage, SM, forced fellatio and vomiting, enemas, urine, and feces. One signature is Tohjiro’s Confinement Chair Trance (拘束椅子トランス), which started in November 2002 and set the house look: restraint plus a trance state. Another Tohjiro line, M-Drug (Mドラッグ), began in September 2005 with Mayura Hoshitsuki and packaged masochism and obedience inside a drug metaphor. He also directed Innocent Desire (青い性欲), sold on a youthful visual register. That series premiered in March 2001, while Dogma was still under SOD. The performers were adult actors working a “pure” look, not minors. The line later moved to its own sub-label.
Hitoshi Nimura’s Hermaphrodite (ふたなり) series is another pillar. Futanari fantasy is a standing part of the catalog, not a one-off gimmick. Series and directors, rather than a soft house style, are what let Dogma fight mainstream studios for attention at award time.
Codes and the sub-labels
Dogma split its output with a production-code system so buyers could tell the stacks apart. In December 2005 Tohjiro opened the hard-SM sub-label CORE SM. The first release was Bound Masochistic Slave, with Maki Tomoda, under the COT-xxx prefix. Shyness opened in November 2007 to continue the pure-look line of Innocent Desire, under DDH-xxx. Those performers are adults, on the same terms as the rest of the catalog. Dogma Out was active mainly in 2005 and 2006, often directed by Baba the Babee, under ODD-xxx. A collector can read intensity and director family off the prefix: Tohjiro’s confinement titles, Nimura’s futanari titles, and CORE SM bondage releases do not sit in the same pile.
The director contest, and the fight with S1
From 2005 through 2007 Dogma ran the D-1 Climax (D-1 クライマックス), a director contest that doubled as marketing and as a stage. Known directors were invited to shoot under the Dogma label. Sales in a set period plus judges’ votes picked the winner. Tohjiro won in 2005 and 2006. Hitoshi Nimura won in 2007. Dogma skipped the AV Open in 2006 and 2007. In the Maniac Stage of the 2008 AV GrandPrix, Tohjiro’s compilation Best of M Drug – Female Meat Toilet, catalog number AVGL-019, was entered. In 2009 his Vomit Enema Ecstasy X, catalog number AVGL-130, starring Mayura Hoshitsuki and Yuka Osawa, was the studio’s entry.
Dogma said out loud that it was taking on the previous year’s champion, S1 No. 1 Style. S1 still took the GrandPrix top prize. Dogma came away with the Digital Sales Award and a prize of two million yen, about twenty thousand U.S. dollars at the time. That result is the brand in one episode: hard content with no apology, marketing built on the director’s personality, and an indie shop willing to swing at a mainstream AV giant. For SM and extreme-fetish viewers, the practical way in is still the official filmography and the studio site, where the confinement chairs, the M-Drug line, and the enema titles are listed.
