Half of spanking is the hand. The other half is how the body is put. The same slap feels different over a lap than it does with both palms on a wall: different meat, different sound, different thing running through the head of the person being hit. This site already has pieces on spanking history and implements. This one is only about positions — which ones work, which ones are theatre, and which ones will put a cane on a place you did not mean to hit.
Assume two consenting adults. Some of the names come from British punishment lore or from the adult spanking scene. They are not instructions for hitting children.
What a position is actually for
A spanking position earns its keep on five counts. How much body contact it gives: over the knee is almost an embrace; bent over a desk is a gap of air. Whether the buttocks are presented: cheeks parted, sit-spot showing, so a hand or a paddle can land true. What tools still fit: palm and hairbrush want closeness; a cane or a long tawse wants room. How stable it is: one flinch, one stand-up, and the next stroke is on a kidney or a tailbone. And how ashamed it feels: some poses say “held by a parent,” others say “laid out on a slab.”
OTK is still the ace
Over the knee. In practice it is over the thighs, not the kneecaps, but the name will not die. The spanker sits. The spankee is draped across the lap. One hand pins the small of the back or the hip; the other strikes. You feel breath, clench, heat. Palm, hairbrush, slipper: all fair. Cane, singletail, big wooden paddle: not fair. There is no arc, and you will clip a head or a spine.
OTK tastes like nearness. Trousers at the knees, underwear caught at the thigh, a hot backside sitting on the spanker’s leg — that is sex long before it is “discipline.” The costs are real. A heavy body on a thin lap goes numb. After a while the spankee slides, the target drops, and the hand starts catching the upper thigh. Drape them on a diagonal, hip on the dominant thigh, chest supported by the other thigh or a cushion, and it holds.
Two variants deserve their own line. Over one knee: one foot on a stool, or one knee down, the body laid on the raised leg. It looks like a nineteenth-century print. It needs a size gap; a small top cannot do it to a large bottom. Straddle: the spankee faces the spanker, opens their legs over one thigh, then folds forward. Crotch against the leg, cleft pulled open, perineum and anus on show. Humiliation and heat both jump. So does the chance of grazing genitals. If you want someone wet and mortified, this is the meanest OTK. If you only want a clean pair of cheeks, skip it.
Standing bends: knees, toes, wall
Hands on one’s own knees, bottom pushed back, is the cheapest bend. No furniture. To stay up they have to stick the ass out further, which is why it looks stupid and filthy at once. Variety shows love it. A long, serious spanking does not: people sway, and a hard stroke sends them walking out of the shot.
Fold deeper — fingertips to the floor, or hands around the ankles — and you have the British “six of the best” stance. Hamstrings tight, glutes flattened, a cane-stroke loud and hot. Head down, blood in the face; nobody holds it forever. Hypermobile knees and angry lumbar spines should not fake authenticity. If the legs go, put them on a desk.
Hands on a wall, body at about forty-five degrees, sits between upright and full fold. The target is clearer than standing straight, less abject than touching toes. Good when the room is small and you need them placed now. Feet can still walk backward out of range. Heels together, forehead to the plaster, and they stay.
Upright standing is mostly ritual: counting, inspection, being looked at. The body recoils. Hard impact here is sloppy. Use it as a prologue or an epilogue, not the main course.
Over furniture: desk, chair, bed, bench
This is the “proper” pose of school stories and studio video. Hands on a chair-back, belly on a desk edge, torso flat on a mattress — each step more supported, each one able to take more time and more force. The bottom often sits low, so a bare hand is less satisfying than over the knee, but a belt, a paddle, or a short cane finally has an arc.
Face-down on a bed with a pillow under the hips approaches the surgical jackknife: ass high, cheeks parted, glutes harder to clench into armor. Long coloring, then sex or a toy, follows naturally. Flat on the mattress with limbs thrown out is a back-beating pose. It is not the best spanking pose.
All fours, knee-chest, legs-up
On all fours looks obedient and often disappoints. They crawl forward. Force leaks into the shoulders. The target moves. A crop or a light paddle can work; a heavy board walks them out of frame. Treat it as a bridge toward taking them from behind, not as the main sentence.
Knee-chest — knees planted, chest on the bed, waist broken, bottom higher — is more obscene than doggy and better for the sit-spot. It loads the lumbar spine and the kneecaps. Pretty for a camera and for sex; poor for a marathon.
On the back, legs folded toward the chest, hips lifted: the English-speaking scene still calls this the diaper position. That is scene slang for an adult pose, the same geometry as changing a nappy, used because it opens everything to the front — vulva or cock, anus, sit-spot, all in one swing path. As a spanking position it is mediocre. The cheeks go flat. Feel turns mushy. A cane or a paddle that misses is on the genitals or the tailbone. Some people want exactly that helplessness. As a default punishment, no. If you use it, use a hand, short range, and look before you land.
Purpose-built: horse, bench, frame
A vaulting horse, a padded bench, an A-frame, a Singapore-style trestle: furniture whose job is to park the buttocks at the highest point and stop the legs from leaving. Dungeon language, not living-room language. Stable, accurate, easy to strap. Built for a formal cane. Because they cannot leave, the top has to stop themselves. Sit-spot may swell. Kidneys, coccyx, and the outer thigh’s nerve are not targets.
Over the shoulder (OTS), or tucked under one arm for a few on-the-spot smacks, is transit and impulse. A fine erotic doorway. It is not a main position; the scene runs out of air.
A biased cheat sheet
First time, intimacy, easy to stop: OTK. A hand is enough. They are on your legs. You will feel it if they cry, get hard, get wet.
Belt, paddle, short cane: over a desk, over a bed with a pillow, over a bench. Stabilize first. Then talk about force.
That British cane crack: touching toes, or bent over a high stool. Lower cheeks and sit-spot. Not the waist.
Shame, display, sex afterward: straddle OTK, or knee-chest. The job is to open them, not to finish them.
Do not make these the main course: fully upright, unsustained all-fours with a heavy paddle, legs-up with anything long. Playable. Poor value. Close to injury.
The pose is already the scene
A good spanking is rarely “bend over, start hitting.” The minute of placing — how far the clothes come down, where the hands go, whether the feet may part, the extra stroke if they will not present — is already play. OTK says you belong on my lap. A desk says this is a rule. Knee-chest says the hole is part of the offering. Legs-up says you do not get to cover it.
Pick the position and you pick which shame, which sting, which aftertaste you want them to keep. Implements swap out. The memory of a hot backside on a thigh usually outlasts any cane.
