Ran Masaki (真咲 乱) was born on 26 July 1965. She is a former Japanese AV idol, pink-film actress, and gravure model who came up in the mid-1980s. Fans remember her as Nikkatsu’s last “SM Queen” (SMの女王, SM no joō) for 1985–1986. For Roman Porno and Japanese SM cinema, that title is the point. As the studio’s theatrical softcore era was closing, she was the end of a line of sadomasochistic leading women sold as a brand. She and the characters are adults.
Masaki starred in three Roman Porno features. SM novelist and screenwriter Oniroku Dan wrote two of them. Dan’s name had already defined a lot of Nikkatsu’s branded bondage and torture fantasy for earlier SM Queens. That screenwriting link puts her in the studio’s path from SM fiction to the screen, not in a random pink-film cameo. Through 1987 she also appeared in adult videos sold on her full figure, AV work after the theatrical SM Queen spotlight.
She is not Ran Mizukami. Some databases, including the JMDB, have merged her with Ran Mizukami (水上 乱), a pink-film actress of the same period who was also known as the fetish model Sawako (佐和子). They are different women. Masaki is Nikkatsu’s final SM Queen. Mizukami / Sawako is a separate pink and fetish track. Collectors of 1980s Japanese SM and pink film should keep the names apart.
