Eugénie de Sade (also titled Eugénie and Eugenie Sex Happening) is a softcore modern update of the Marquis de Sade’s short story “Eugénie de Franval” (1800). Spanish director Jesús Franco filmed it in 1970 and released it in 1973. De Sade’s tale of criminal, incestuous power becomes Euro sexploitation rather than hardcore or strict period drama.
Cast and Confusion with the Other Eugenie
Soledad Miranda stars as Eugénie Radeck de Franval, with Paul Muller as Albert Radeck de Franval, plus Andrea Montchal (Paul), Greta Schmidt (Kitty), and Alice Arno (photo model). The film is often mixed up with Franco’s earlier Eugenie… The Story of Her Journey into Perversion (1970), from Philosophy in the Bedroom—both casually called Eugenie. Stephen Thrower’s Murderous Passions (2015) is the standard Franco further reading. Related topics: Marquis de Sade on film, Soledad Miranda, and 1970s softcore Sade adaptations.
