Dungeon Monitor: Who Watches the Play Space

A dungeon monitor, often called a dungeon master or DM, is the safety watcher in a BDSM play space. The role shows up at play parties and fetish clubs. A DM is not the party host. The job is to watch the room while other people scene.

The people in the room are adults who have already negotiated. A DM watches whether the equipment is being used safely, whether anyone is in medical distress, and whether house rules are being broken. If a safeword is ignored, if impact or blood play goes past the venue’s limits, or if the crowd blocks an emergency exit, the DM can and should interrupt. A good monitor knows where the first-aid kit and the rope-cutting tools are, and does not shame players whose scene was within the rules and got stopped because of the room.

Private play is just the partners. A public dungeon mixes strangers and uneven skill, so someone has to watch the floor. A dedicated DM owns the room, and is not there to run their own scene. Hosts and guests should know who the DMs are, respect a stop call, and treat them as safety staff, not as decoration.
