Overview of Torture
(Translated from Chinese)
Torture of women is fundamentally different from SM in that it is not about arousing the sexual desire of the sufferer through a certain amount of physical pain, but about causing extreme physical pain to the sufferer. In many cases, the strong stimulation of sexual desire is simply a means to enhance the effect of the torture, which is also quite different from SM’s quest to stimulate sexual desire.
A deeper understanding of the extreme physical pain caused by torture can help us to distinguish more clearly between female fidelity and SM.
Almost all torture that can be applied to men can be applied to women, and only a very small number of tortures that specifically target the male sexual organs cannot be applied to women. There are many different types of torture that can be used on women, but not on men, because of the difference in the physiological structure of men and women. In actual torture, various methods of torture are often used in combination with each other, and what is written here is a basic classification. I am not a medical student, so I only rely on my limited knowledge to talk about the various types of torture and how to use them, but I hope it can help female martyrs in the conception of literary and artistic works.
I. Torture on the limbs and joints
This type of torture is mainly used to put the victim’s limbs in an abnormal state by binding and suspending them with ropes, including pulling joints and ligaments and forcing the victim to reverse the joints to cause pain.
Binding is the most common and usually serves the primary purpose of restricting movement, acting as a restraint, or creating conditions for the use of other forms of torture. We are familiar with the five big ties, mainly to limit the movement of the victim while creating physical pain. In practice, the SM common forehead cross is rare, because the torturer’s movements are more complex (left and right two ties to do a cross of the rope in the forehead of the victim). The common ones are strangulation style and shawl style, shawl style is less painful, mainly because of the convenience of the torturer’s movement and facilitates the use of other tortures again (the sufferer’s forehead is completely exposed).
In addition to the same effect of the shawl style, the neck style also causes physical pain to the victim through the binding itself: the two arms are crossed and tied up behind the body, and the elbow joints are forced to be twisted backwards and connected to the neck part through the rope, so that the victim’s arms are naturally forced downward due to the pain of the elbow joints, which in turn increases the strength of the neck being strangled, while to reduce the pain of the neck being To reduce the pain of strangulation of the neck, and can only endure the pain of the twisted elbow joint. The degree of tightness of the binding can also cause pain to the body, especially for women who have the effect of tightening the breasts and the vulva. However, the pain level of this binding is limited, most of the sufferers can endure, forcing the sufferer to submit takes a long time, so the actual torture simply by binding to create pain is not common.
Suspension is the most common method of torture, the victim’s arms up, the body weight (including the weight of the torturer may be additionally imposed) under the pull of the wrist will have severe pain, while the chest cavity due to the pull and deformation, prolonged suspension can cause the victim breathing difficulties, which is similar to the physiology of death by crucifixion. When hanging upside down, the head of the victim will be filled with blood, and prolonged hanging upside down may result in bleeding from the seven orifices (Jiang Zhuyun was hung upside down for a long time and fainted during her torture). In order to aggravate the pain of pulling, the use of suspension is often tied to hang the victim’s two thumbs or bunions (when using inverted hanging), because the other finger and toe joints will not be able to bear the weight of the body and completely pulled off.
The famous Vietnamese martyr Tran Thi Van was stripped naked and hung upside down by wire with her two big toes tied to her clothes. China used to use suspension has a common special method, is to hang the sufferer to just the height of the toe on the ground, so that the sufferer is difficult to completely rely on the wrist or thumb to bear the weight of the whole body, but also can not completely rely on the toe to support the body, extremely painful, which is unique to China’s torture methods. There is also a special suspension method is relatively rare, is the so-called “monkey hold pile”, the victim will be tied in front of the two hands (can also be tied only thumbs) to hold the two knees forced to bend, from the knee bend into a stick, in the ends of the stick with a rope hanging (can also be set up on the stick to a certain height of other apparatus).
At this point the buttocks, pubic area and the heart of the feet of the sufferer are completely exposed, facilitating the use of other means by the torturer. In this position, the wrists (thumbs), knees, waist and neck will be squeezed, twisted and stretched by the weight of various parts of the body, very painful, Yang Kaihui had suffered this torture. Yang Kaihui was subjected to this torture. Similar to suspension, there is also the Western limb pulling torture, which mainly involves pulling off the joints of the victim’s limbs with a torture device, and is rarely seen in China.
The most famous of the anti-joint tortures is the tiger stool, which is a unique Chinese torture. The knee joint has the smallest range of motion among the major joints of the human limbs, and the length of the thighs and calves at each end facilitates the torturer to use the principle of leverage to force the victim with less force. The key point of using the tiger stool is to make the victim in a sitting position (both arms are tied backwards or tied into a cross), which will increase the pulling force of the leg ligaments, while the supine position due to the relaxation of the hip joint, together with the relaxation of the leg ligaments, will reduce the degree of pain; the second is the leg tied to the thigh on the knee, rather than the following parts.
Because the role of the tiger stool is to pull the joint ligaments of the victim’s leg and cause dislocation of the knee joint, not to break the victim’s lower leg. Because breaking the calf bone requires a lot of force, the pain is short (the victim quickly fainted) does not meet the requirements of the torturer both to torture the victim and save their own effort. Make the victim barefoot, often for the use of the tiger stool at the same time on the heart of her feet torture. According to historical records, the victim will generally sit on the tiger stool pad three bricks will be sweating profusely, five bricks when the knee joint completely dislocated, people will faint. The torturers usually pause after each block, so that the sufferer’s pain lasts for a while before increasing the intensity of the torture.
Women’s ligaments are usually softer than men’s, so they suffer longer on the bench, often up to six bricks before fainting, the longest recorded eight bricks, which is probably related to the different thickness of the bricks. In the use of the tiger stool, there will be victims of broken thigh bones, which is related to the torturer’s improper grasp of the strength of the torture (too impatient or angry) and leg binding position is too high, improper tightness and other factors. Rope binding is not the tighter the better, but to the extent that the victim’s legs can not move.
Li Qinglin’s thigh bone was broken by the tiger stool when she was arrested and tortured in the county, and the torturers there were too impatient. Jiang Zhuyun also sat on the tiger stool when she was tortured in Jagged Cave prison, but her leg was not broken, which is a difference in the level of torture used by the torturers in the two places. If the torture is correct, the sufferer will only dislocate the knee joint at most, and the leg bone will not be broken. There is an account of the torturers untying the victim from the tiger bench after she had fainted and awakened, and forcing her to run with two strong torturers to increase the pain in her knee joint. If the thigh bone was broken, it would be difficult to continue the torture.
Another type of anti-joint torture was the upper hanging, in which the victim’s arms were tied behind her back (and both thumbs tied behind her back) and her own weight was used to dislocate the shoulder joint. The shoulder joint has the largest range of motion and is the easiest to dislocate among the large joints of the human limbs, so this torture will cause the most pain to the victim in a short time. The so-called “airplane”, similar to the principle of hanging on the big, is to hang the victim’s limbs at the same time back tie.
Other tying and hanging tortures include “hanging by half” (hanging only one side of the victim’s limbs), “fairy guidance” (hanging by both feet and one arm), etc., all of which are variations of the above-mentioned hanging torture.
2. the role of the human skin and nerve endings of torture
The human skin is full of nerve endings, the senses are very sensitive, the human pain to the outside world in daily life, are these nerve endings in action. Some nerve endings concentrated parts, such as fingers, toes, sexual organs, etc., is even more sensitive and unusual. The distribution characteristics of the human nerve network also form many subcutaneous sensitive areas, such as the sides of the spine, the armpits, the inner thighs, the two ribs and so on. As a result, the users of torture have been able to use these physiological characteristics of the human body to inflict great pain on the victims in a less laborious way. Most of the torture methods we know of fall into this category, and those specifically targeting women are basically of this type.
There are many different methods of torture, including whipping, stabbing, squeezing, burning, barbecuing, tearing, rubbing, etc. Most of these methods do not affect muscles or bones, but the variety and cruelty of these methods are second to none.
Whipping is the oldest and most commonly used form of torture. It is mainly used to hurt the epidermis of the victim’s body by rapid whipping with a torture instrument, causing skin tears, subcutaneous congestion, edema, etc. to stimulate the subcutaneous nerve endings and cause severe pain. The female martyrs who were subjected to various kinds of torture almost always had to endure this torture first when they were tortured. Whipping instruments mainly include leather whips, bamboo grates, thick hemp rope dipped in water (to increase the weight to speed up the speed of the blow in the air) and other flexible devices, while hard sticks and bamboo plates can hurt muscles and even bones, which belong to another category of torture.
Whipping is characterized by targeting a large area of skin on the human body, not a particularly sensitive small part, because without special training, it is difficult for the general torturer to be very accurate to keep whipping a specific small part of the sufferer. The whipping is usually applied to a large area of the body such as the chest, back, buttocks and thighs. For the suffering woman, whipping the breasts causes no more pain than whipping other parts of the body, unless the sensitive nipples are directly hit.
By the same token, squeezing the breasts causes no more pain than squeezing other areas with more muscle and fat. This is because the nerve endings in the breast are more concentrated in the mammary glands and nipples than in the epidermis of the breast. Some literature and art works are keen to depict whipping or squeezing female breasts with a torture device, which is actually a misunderstanding of the effects of torture influenced by SM works.
The pain caused by whipping increases with the duration of the whipping, and the sufferer gradually faints with it, while the sensation of pain decreases due to the severe pain over a large area of the body. Therefore, professional torturers tend to use whipping in a moderate manner, in order not to affect the effect of using other tortures. Huang Changjiao, a woman member of the former Chinese Soviet government who was arrested by a local militia group after the Red Army’s Long March, mentioned this later when she recalled her torture.
The local White militia, who had no real experience in torture, first stripped her naked and tied her to a pole, where a strong man with a bamboo grate whipped her for a long time, causing her to finally faint. After she woke up, the torturer used incense to burn her breasts instead, but by this time she was in a semi-comatose state due to severe pain all over her body, and her senses were no longer very sensitive to this torture.
The stabbing instruments are mainly needles of various lengths, bamboo sticks, pig bristles, steel wires and so on. The main targets were the areas where the nerve endings were concentrated at the end of the body, especially the fingers and toes, and the pig bristles and wires were mainly used for certain special areas. The cruelty of this torture is evident in the historical records of the insanity of those who suffered under it. Needle pricking was one of the most common forms of torture, and its effect was generally not to remove the fingernails or toenails and had no significant effect on the next step of torture, which was to remove the nails (toenails). In contrast, nailing the finger with a bamboo stick usually causes the nail to fall off. This is also a long history, the use of common torture, the famous female martyrs Zhao Yiman, Jiang Zhuyun were subjected to this torture.
The squeezing method usually focuses on the fingers and toes of the victim, and the most famous way is the ancient Chinese method of squeezing the fingers. Xu Yuanju had Jiang Zhuyun’s ten fingers clamped with bamboo chopsticks, a variation of the squeezing finger. Women’s fingers are generally considered to be more sensitive than men’s, so finger torture is common in records of female martyrs’ suffering. In ancient China, squeezing the fingers was classified as a form of torture exclusively for women, while for men it was a form of clamping stick.
The “wooden shoe” torture, in which the victim’s ten toes were nailed to a wooden board and then forced to stand by hanging, also falls into this category of squeezing torture. Another type of torture was the pliers, which were usually used to pinch the fingers and toes of the victims and to remove their nails. 49 years after the suppression of the women’s strike at the Shanghai yarn factory, a female worker surnamed Wu was arrested and stripped of her blouse and twisted her nipples with a vise.
The scalding method usually uses a red-hot iron, or a dark fire such as a joss stick or cigarette. Generally, third-degree burns are immediately formed on the tortured parts of the body, leaving wounds that are difficult to heal, and the sufferer often faints quickly. The experienced torturers are to control the short time of torture, only the formation of second-degree burns with blisters, the victim will not soon faint, and then tear the blisters can cause further pain to the victim.
There are many parts of the body that are subjected to scalding, usually the ribs (where the intercostal nerves are located), the back (nerve distribution areas on both sides of the spine), the inner thighs, and the feet. There are also mucous membrane areas where the nerve endings of the body are concentrated, such as the anus and the pubic area. In China, the old torture “red back pocket” was used to brand the victim’s back with a red-hot iron plate, and to force the victim to walk barefoot on the red-hot iron plate. For the special parts of women, this kind of hot branding torture is more commonly used.
When Chen Ke Ma, a 40-year-old female martyr from Longyan County, Fujian Province, was arrested, the White Army stripped her naked and tied her to a pole, burning her breasts and chest with incense until she passed out. Sometimes the torturers used red-hot iron pliers, combined with squeezing. As in the case of the Vietnamese heroine Tran Thanh, the torturers used red-hot iron pliers to pinch up the flesh around her breasts and pussy, piece by piece, deliberately prolonging her ordeal.
Barbecue is the use of open fire to burn certain parts of the sufferer’s body, and hot branding has similarities. But the open fire is not easy to control the intensity of the torture, the degree of burns caused to the sufferer is often greater than scalding. And because of human nature, the psychological pressure of open fire on the victim is greater than that of scalding. The Vietnamese martyr, Tran Thi Van, was twice tortured with barbecue during a torture session: the agents stripped her naked, tied her limbs, and set fire to her cunt after stuffing a cotton dipped in gasoline, but she endured great pain without pleading or screaming; when the agents saw that the torture was ineffective, they tied her to a low table and burned her navel with an electric stone lamp for an hour. This method was also commonly used on hairy parts of the body, such as the lower body and armpits. The torture of “lighting a lantern in the sky” is done by pouring kerosene on the victim’s hair and igniting it, which directly burns the nerve-ridden scalp of women with long hair, often resulting in severe burns and even death on the spot.
Tearing type of torture is used to peel off the skin of the human body, the representative is “wearing mourning”. This torture has been used in China since ancient times, using a sticky glue coated on the body of the victim, with other cloth and twine items attached to it. After the glue dries, the victim’s skin is torn off by pulling hard. This type of torture is relatively rare, because it often results in instant death.
Friction torture, except for women have pulled the thick rope rubbing the way the pussy, mainly used for the two ribs of the body, because this part of the skin is thin, distributed intercostal nerves. For example, the “iron ribs”, with a rough iron to rub the victim’s ribs, the place of torture first turns white, and then oozes tiny beads of blood. A more common form of torture was “rib grabbing,” in which several sharp-tipped bullets were tied together and slashed around between the victim’s ribs. The female communicator, Hou Wu’s wife, was arrested and severely tortured by the Returned Villagers, and when whipping and pressing the bar did not make her yield, they peeled off her blouse and used this torture on her. The Vietnamese martyr Tran Thi Van was also subjected to this kind of torture by the agents between the two barbecue tortures she endured, and her naked ribs were cut with bullet warheads so that they bled, and in some places even her ribs were exposed.
There is also a friction type of torture, wire brushing the feet, this torture is often used in combination with the tiger stool. The heart of the foot is also one of the sensitive parts of the body, and when the nerves on the bottom of the foot are strongly brushed, the pain is accompanied by an unbearable stabbing sensation. When Deng Huizhong, a Red Rock martyr, was stripped naked and tied barefoot to a tiger stool, the agents used a wire brush to brush her feet while poking her nipples with pig bristles. Her daughter was then taken to the torture room by the agents, and before she entered the door she heard her mother’s harsh screams.
3. Torture that acts on human muscles and bones
This type of torture includes the ancient cane, i.e., beating the buttocks of the victim with a thick stick or bamboo plate. This cane torture in addition to causing injuries similar to whipping, more direct injury to the subcutaneous muscle tissue of the victim, resulting in more serious subcutaneous bleeding and edema than whipping, and can even injure the bones and cause disability. If the torture is too strong, too long, plus the use of torture is not very accurate, there will be cases of injury to the kidneys. Generally speaking, this type of torture using hard instruments is not used much in interrogation because it requires a lot of effort on the part of the torturer, but mainly to deprive the victim of dignity and to show discipline.
In the old days, the main torture used in China was the clamping of sticks, which was done by clamping two thick wooden sticks to the lower part of the victim’s calf near the ankle bone and tightening them with a rope. This part of the skin is very thin, the force can be directly on the bones, serious will cause bone fractures, or even shatter the victim’s ankle bone. Because this torture requires special instruments, the use of torture in later times is not as common as the press bar.
The bar was usually tied to the victim in a kneeling position on a cruciform torture frame (the old Chinese style was called a scales frame), or she was forced to kneel with two torturers holding her upright, and then a thick wooden bar was pressed against the victim’s calves while two torturers stepped on both ends of the bar, or one end of the bar was tied with a rope and one torturer stepped on the other end. When the torture is strong, it will cause the calf muscles to crack and the knee to be injured. Like the tiger stool, the pressed bar is a unique torture in old China. In addition to the effects of torture, the injuries to the legs can make it difficult for the victim to walk and escape from prison. Another form of this type of torture was kneeling in chains, which had a similar effect to kneeling on tiles and broken glass, both of which injured the sufferer’s knees. An even more brutal practice was the use of special chains with steel nails that snapped the ligaments in the knees, causing severe disabilities.
There is also a “bone-crushing” torture, in which a thick iron bar is used to strike the wrist or ankle bone, and the same practice is often used to strike the distal ends of the fingers, toes, and other sensitive limbs. These parts of the skin is thin, the force of the blow can be directly on the bone, and the force of torture is easy to grasp, the victim is difficult to quickly faint. When the force of torture is high, it can cause serious consequences such as bone fractures and fractures to the victim.
Since most of these tortures require a great deal of effort on the part of the torturer, once the force is reduced, the sufferer’s pain is reduced, so they are not as commonly used as other types of torture. The author of “Song of Youth” describes Lin Daojing as having been tortured by pressing a bar, but apparently the author did not understand that the victims of such torture were basically disabled for life and would not recover as quickly as Lin Daojing does in the book. When the female transportation worker Hou Wuxia was arrested and refused to submit to the whipping, the torturers used the torture of pressing the bar on her, and then the torture of “grabbing the ribs” after she fainted three times after being pressed, and finally threw her into the sheep pen. She was not able to escape from the prison unguarded because of her leg injury, which shows the gap between literature and reality.
Another type of torture, different from the one above, is forced muscle fatigue, which usually takes a long time to achieve the effect of causing great pain to the victim. The most common form of torture used in old China was the standing cage, in which the victim was forced to remain in a standing position for a long period of time, usually two to three days.
The upper part of the cage was a wooden shackle, which was stuck around the neck of the victim, and the overall height of the cage was higher than the person’s. The victim was forced to stand on several bricks, and the torturer increased or decreased the number of bricks according to the intensity of the torture, generally keeping the victim at a height where he could only stand on his toes. If all the bricks were removed, the victim’s feet would be suspended and his whole body weight would be borne by his neck, which was stuck in the wooden shackle.
The torture of forcing the victim’s muscles to fatigue, there are a variety of other ways to use, the simple is to force the victim to take a crouching position against the wall, hands apart and shoulder height handcuffed to the wall in the iron ring. In this way, the victim can neither sit nor stand up, and after a few hours, the muscles of the whole body are unbearably sore. Then there is the victim’s arms are tied flat to the pillar, so that she can not sit down and put down her arms, after a few hours the victim’s limbs muscles will be tired and sore. This type of torture was often used in the context of “torture by torture” and in combination with other tortures.
For example, when the Vietnamese heroine Phan Thi Kham was arrested and tortured, the agents used the method of “torture” on her: forcing her to squat on the floor naked with an iron ball in her hand, while burning her anus with a match and stabbing her breasts with thin bamboo slices. “It was up to three days, during which Pan’s Kanna was tortured many times to faint, were awakened and continued to be tortured.
There is a kind of torture that combines the two features of injury to the bones and forced muscle fatigue, called “iron pipe”, which is very rare because of the use of special torture tools. This special instrument is an iron collar with a long, movable iron rod. The collar was placed around the neck of the victim, her upper body was tied to the pole, and her arms were held flat and tied to the other end of the bar.
Due to the special structure of the combination of the bar and the collar, when the distal end of the bar is down, the other end will be pushed into the cartilage of the victim’s throat, causing throat injury and suffocation, while the length of the bar is not long enough to pierce the throat and cause death. Thus, the victim was forced to hold his arms flat for a long time, suffering the double pain of muscle pain and semi-asphyxiation caused by the top of the throat. Although rare, this type of torture was among the dozens of tortures in the Jiaozhu Cave.
4. Torture that acts on the human nervous system
This type of torture is relatively rare, and the most commonly used is electrocution. Since electrocution is very closely related to the torture of female martyrs, it will be discussed in detail in the section “Torture specifically for women”, and only other types of torture will be discussed in this section.
The use of drugs and other chemicals for torture is relatively rare, and there are records of the use of psychedelic and narcotic drugs for torture, but they were not commonly used because of their unstable effects. All of the victims who could endure torture were mentally strong, and even if symptoms appeared after being tortured with drugs, they often did not fully meet the torturer’s wishes, so torture using drugs to target the human nervous system was rare. However, due to the differences in sexual physiology and psychology between men and women, this type of torture is only effective for women. For this reason, the use of sexual drugs is also discussed in a later section.
Related to drug torture is the use of other chemicals in torture. Stimulating chemicals are basically used in combination with other tortures, which is tantamount to enhancing the effect of other tortures. For example, the application of salt water and alcohol to the victim’s wounds is a very cruel method that is used in the second phase of “mourning”. After she fainted several times and became numb to the pain of the whipping, the agents began to brush salt water on her naked body, which was covered with wounds.
When Xie Wenqing was arrested and tortured by the enemy, the thugs stripped her naked and used scissors to cut her flesh piece by piece, then applied salt, causing her so much pain that she fainted several times. In addition, irritants were often used in torture that acted on the human respiratory and digestive tracts, which is also covered in the next section. There was also a method specifically for women in which a plant containing a particularly stimulating substance, such as yams, was used to repeatedly rub the vagina and anus of a female martyr, and then her lower body was submerged in water.
The chemical reaction of the yams to the water caused extreme pain and itching, as well as redness and ulceration of the female martyr’s lower body. However, this torture took a long time to work, so it was rarely used. One disadvantage of using chemicals such as drugs in torture is that once the victim succumbs (which is the ultimate goal of torture), the torture cannot usually be released in time because the time for the stimulating effects of the chemicals to wear off is beyond the control of the torturer.
The main types of torture that simply work on the human nervous system are brain bracelets and the “golden bell on the head”. The brain band had two special bumps in the temple area of the victim, and when the torture was strong, the victim’s eyes would even be squeezed out, which was extremely cruel. In the old days, experienced torturers would generally stop when the sufferer’s pain did not reach its limit, and instead use a torture device formerly known as the “board”. This is just a very small wooden or bamboo board, used to strike the brain hoops set aside for a few ropes. This very light knocking vibration, through the solid transmission effect of the rope to the victim’s tightly bound head, as a huge pounding general.
The “golden bell on the head” was used to cover the head of the victim with an iron pot or a lead barrel, and then struck from the outside with strong sonic oscillations to destroy the victim’s hearing and brain nerves. In ancient times, this torture was even done with a real bronze bell, which was placed inside the bell and struck, usually causing death on the spot. Both types of torture usually caused unhealable damage to the nerves of the victim and symptoms of insanity, which was not exactly what the torturer wanted (the purpose of torture was to make the victim confess the truth soberly), so they were rarely used in reality.
The torture of “boiling” is also a kind of torture that specifically affects the nervous system of the victim, making it impossible for the victim to rest and sleep for days on end, so that the victim’s nervous system and endurance exceed the limits of fatigue, and is very common in torture. Yang Kaihui was held for more than half a year without being arraigned for only three days; Chen Shiyun was arrested twice and held in three prisons, and was held in the second prison for more than a year without being tortured for only ten days; Luo Rongde, a female martyr in Fujian, was arrested and tortured for one day and night without succumbing, and the next day she was stripped naked and tied naked to the stairs, and all the enemy soldiers who passed by used cigarettes to burn her flesh, concentrating on her breasts, navel, and lower The next day she was stripped naked and tied naked to the stairs, and any passing enemy soldier used a cigarette to burn her flesh, concentrating on her breasts, navel and pubic area, and so on.
5. Torture on the human respiratory and digestive tracts
This type of torture is basically related to water, when the torture is usually tied to a bench or ladder on her back, so that her head is tilted back, and then forcibly filled with water. The scene of the torture of Fang Lin’s wife in the comic strip “The Railway Guerrillas” is an actual scene of this torture. Although the method of irrigation is a bit more complicated, it is very common in torture because it can cause great pain to the victim and the torturer does not take much effort. The method of irrigation is slightly different between the two types of torture, and the consequences are very different.
For the digestive tract of the irrigation, usually directly forced into the mouth of the victim, the amount of water, until the victim’s stomach completely up, and then use a strong squeeze, so that the water from the victim’s mouth and anus, causing great pain. For the convenience of irrigation, generally first to use wet cloth and other things to block the nose of the victim, forcing her to open her mouth to breathe, and then use iron ruler and other things forced into her teeth, forcefully pry open the mouth after direct irrigation or insert the funnel and then irrigation. The victim’s intestines and stomach will be repeatedly filled with water and squeezed in this way, there will be serious functional disorders.
The torture “hanging duck floating water” is not direct irrigation, but the victim will hang upside down, and then make her head completely submerged in water, resulting in the same consequences as drowning. For respiratory irrigation, the main purpose is to cause suffocation and strong choking and coughing, usually through the nostrils after blocking her mouth, so that the water directly into the trachea and lungs. This type of irrigation is slow and the amount of water is not large.
One way of torture is to combine the two types of torture, using a small bowl or other container to slowly pour water into the victim’s nostrils, through the nasal passage into the esophagus and intestines, until the victim’s stomach swells up and then forcefully squeeze, this way will make the victim suffocate and choke for several minutes of pain. To make it more painful, the water is often spiked with stimulants.
The most common is the filling of chili pepper water, so that the victim produces extremely violent choking and coughing, chili pepper ingredients will also be circulated with the lungs into the victim’s whole body blood, many days after the torture of the whole body spicy pain. Other irritants include kerosene and gasoline, which can cause severe irritation and bleeding from the victim’s seven orifices. The former vice president of the All-China Women’s Federation, Shuai Mengqi, had her right leg crushed by a tiger stool on the first day of torture and was doused with kerosene several times on the second day, causing her to bleed from her seven orifices and losing the sight of her right eye and her left eye for life. The aforementioned case of the martyr Luo Rongde, who was doused with mud water during her ordeal, caused severe asphyxiation and even endangered her life.
In some records, there is also the practice of boiling water and boiling hot chili pepper water, and in the former Nanjing Army Prison in the Republic of China, there were cases where the victims were killed on the spot by boiling chili pepper water. For the digestive tract irrigation, it is often used lime water or soapy water, because these two stimulants to the respiratory tract is not as strong as chili, kerosene and other things, but its corrosive can bring damage to the gastrointestinal sufferers, leading to severe vomiting.
To aggravate the psychological pressure of the torture of the sufferers, sometimes dirty water and filth are also used, and fermentation of feces produces ammonia, which is similar to lime water in terms of irritation. When the Vietnamese heroine Tran Thanh was tortured, the torturers first pierced her fingers with needles and pressed them hard on the table, then stripped her naked and used red-hot pliers to pinch up the flesh around her breasts and pussy, then filled her stomach with feces, then added a wooden bar and rolled it strongly, repeatedly, torturing her to death.
There was a kind of torture called “water gourd” in Jiaozhu Cave Prison, which was a leather ball filled with chili water. The criminal inserted the catheter of the ball into the nostrils of the victim. When the ball was pressed hard, the chili water would be violently sprayed into the nasal cavity, trachea and lungs of the victim, causing a more violent choking and coughing than the normal filling of chili water, and Jiang Zhuyun was tortured by this torture. This method can also be used to pour chili water into the anus of the victim, or into the vagina of women.
6. Female Specific Torture
To understand female specific torture, the topic of sex is inevitable. The differences in human structure and sexual physiology and psychology between men and women determine the characteristics of certain tortures specifically for women. I am not a medical student, but I have studied the principles of medical anatomy and pathology due to my work. When I looked at the various types of documented torture in the context of this knowledge, not only did many things I didn’t understand become clear to me, but my respect for the steadfast female martyrs grew while I was creeped out.
In addition to the sexual organs and secondary sexual characteristics (mainly breasts) that are different from those of men, women also have more delicate skin, more subcutaneous fat, weaker muscles, and softer ligaments in the joints of the limbs, among other physical characteristics. More importantly, women’s sense of touch (fingertips, toe tips, palms, soles, etc.) and the epidermis of the body are more sensitive to pain than men’s. In this way, women are more sensitive to pain than men in the same torture situation. Thus, in the case of the same torture, women will feel the pain more intensely than men.
In addition, the resilience of men and women to brutal environments differs, with men generally showing rigidity and women having greater resilience. The proportion of direct deaths under torture is much higher for men than for women, and there are many examples of women who have endured various kinds of torture for a long time and still have the ability to live.
The following are a few representative examples of female martyrs who endured torture: Chen Kemun, a female martyr in Fujian, was arrested and tortured twice when she was nearly 40 years old. The first time she was tortured every day for a week, and on the last day she was stripped naked and tied to a pole, while the white bandits burned her breasts with a large amount of incense for about an hour, and even cut off both of her breasts at the end. She was executed a day later, but escaped with a bullet in her jaw. She was arrested again a year later and tortured for half a month longer. When she was put on the woodpile, she was unable to move her body, but she was able to shout slogans and die a heroic death.
Han Cui-lan, a Hebei martyr, was arrested at the age of 19 and tortured for several days, undergoing torture such as tiger stool, kerosene filling and breast burning. Her fingers and toes were broken off before she finally died, but she still stood up. After her arrest, Jiangxi heroine Huang Xiuying was stripped naked and tied to a torture bed. Overnight, she was subjected to six successive tortures: pouring chili water, stabbing her fingers with needles, burning her armpits with fire, burning her back with iron, nailing her breasts with steel needles, and poking her nipples with pig bristles.
When the Vietnamese heroine Phan Thi Kham suffered, the torturers used lime water to make her stomach bigger, squeezed it hard and then poured it again, repeating several times. Later, she was stripped naked, her hair was pulled out, and her calves were poked with a knife. Her cell was a box that could not be moved, with only two small air holes. She was imprisoned in this box for nearly a year, during which she was tortured for three days and nights with bamboo sticks to pierce her breasts and matches to blaze her anus.
However, her life force was not overwhelmed by the torture. After a day and a night of torture, her husband defected and she was stripped naked and tied to the stairs for interrogation, while enemy soldiers burned her breasts, navel and pussy with matches and cigarettes.
The number and length of time that Vietnamese martyr Tran Thi Van was tortured is rare in the literature. The first time she was whipped and fainted, and when she woke up, her torturers stripped her naked and hung her upside down by two big toes with a wire until she fainted again. When she was transferred to another prison with a reputation for brutal torture, she was tortured the same day.
The torturers clamped wires to both of her nipples and repeatedly tortured her with electricity throughout the day. During her year-long imprisonment in this prison, she was not tortured for only ten days, an unimaginable amount and intensity of torture. On one of the days, her torturers stripped her naked, tied her limbs, and then inserted a cotton dipped in gasoline into her cunt and set her on fire, and she endured so much pain that she did not scream until she fainted. Eventually, the subcutaneous fat in her abdomen was burned and bled off, and even the torturers were unable to continue the torture.
After more than a year of constant torture, she had the strength to escape from prison with her fellow prisoners. A year after her escape, she was arrested again and tortured for weeks on end. Before her death, the enemy tortured her and showed her naked to the public. She was tied to a wooden post in a truck carriage, naked, with her hands tied behind her back through the wire. By this time both ears, both cheeks and both breasts had been cut open and were hanging down, her pussy had been cut to expose her pelvis, her stomach and thighs were covered with slashed flesh, and blood was flowing all the way from the carriage to the floor. Even so, she still managed to whisper out a cry. The enemy thought she would die soon, but after a half-day parade in the hot sun, they had to bring her back to the prison alive, and she was shot only two days after being tortured by torture.
From the above examples, it can be seen how hardy the female martyrs were in their endurance and vitality under torture. However, this physical characteristic made their suffering even longer when they were tortured. The cunt is the body organ representing the female, and the breast is the second most prominent female secondary sexual characteristic. These two parts are concentrated with a large number of nerve endings and are the most sensitive parts of the female flesh, and the most easily stimulated to arouse female sexual desire. Therefore, it is natural that the torture specifically for women is basically for these two prominent female parts. Among the female martyrs who were subjected to more types of torture, longer periods of suffering, and more severe pain, a larger proportion were married and fertile.
Their mature flesh and existing life experiences make their female organs more sensitive to sexual stimulation than those of young girls, and they are subjected to greater psychological pressure in the face of the torture to be used on their breasts and pussy. Experienced torturers were more willing to torture them, and their relatively rich social experience made them more resilient under torture, so that the adult female martyrs usually suffered longer and more severely. The use of bondage was rare in the torture of women.
Breast binding, which is common in SM works, is rarely used in actual torture. The reason is that the engorgement caused by the binding of the breasts will instead numb the female nipples and reduce the original sensitivity. It is only when the bindings are loosened that the nerves in the breasts are stimulated by the restoration of blood flow and the woman’s sexual desire is easily aroused. Therefore, it is used only when the arousal creates conditions for the use of other tortures, because the female breasts and pussy become more sensitive under the effect of sexual desire.
In contrast, the difficulty of binding breasts varies depending on the degree of flesh development (plump or slim) of the suffering women, so it is rarely used in real torture. In the case of Xie Wenqing, a female martyr in Shandong, her breasts were tied and hung up and beaten. If the suffering woman is not very plump, this way is more trouble. The pain caused to the suffering woman by tying her breasts and hanging them up is that the pectoral muscles are stretched and the pain is often difficult to reach the torturer’s requirements.
The practice of tying the nipples is also available, but a slightly stronger torture will tear the nipples and pull them off, which can cause extreme pain, but will significantly shorten the woman’s suffering time. Binding alone is also difficult to cause extreme pain to a woman’s pussy, unless it is combined with violent abrasion with ropes, as in the Jagged Cave torture, where thick ropes were used to rub back and forth against a woman’s pussy. This method often requires shaving or plucking women’s ****, because the human body’s armpit hair and **** in the limbs and torso in the part of the connection, its role is to reduce the movement of the limbs and torso skin friction.
Because of these physiological peculiarities, the actual torture of female breasts and pubic area is rarely used as a simple binding method. In addition to electrocution, the four most common methods of torture on female breasts and pubic area are stabbing, burning, scalding, and rubbing, among which rubbing is only used on the pubic area. For female breast torture, stabbing is the most used method. The nerve distribution in the female breast is radial, with the nerve endings concentrated in the nipple areola.
The epidermis of the breast is actually the same as the skin of other parts of the body, without touching the nipple areola or the milk ducts in the breast, and the epidermis of the breast cannot cause more severe pain to the suffering woman. The stabbing method uses sharp instruments such as steel needles, bamboo sticks, wire, and pig bristles to pierce from the nipple of the suffering woman into the breast, acting directly on the nerve endings and nerve plexus in the breast, causing extremely intense pain. Piercing the nipple from the side does not produce severe pain because the nerve endings are not fully touched.
In contrast, piercing the entire breast from the side with a wire and bamboo stick, for example, also produces severe pain because it hurts the milk ducts and nerve plexus in the breast. The famous martyr Mao Ze-jian, who was tortured in two prisons after her arrest, was hung up by her torturers with thick wires piercing both breasts until she passed out. The practice of piercing the nipples was even more common in Nazi Germany, where needles were first burned red and then pierced into the nipples of the suffering women.
Sometimes the torturers also deliberately left the probe in the breasts of the suffering women. In the Shangrao concentration camp, an unnamed female martyr was hung naked from a torture post, and the torturers used a steel needle to pierce one of her nipples, and then another steel needle to pierce her other nipple after questioning, and kept on questioning and torturing her for a whole afternoon. Hunan female martyr Xiang Sanniang arrested, the torturers stripped her blouse, and then two bamboo sticks into her nipples after not pulled out, and her unweaned child to find together with the detention, forcing her to endure severe pain for the sake of the child themselves from the nipples to pull off the bamboo sticks stabbing nipples in the torture device, the most vicious is pig bristles.
Other instruments of torture, such as steel needles, bamboo sticks, and wire, can damage the nerve plexus in a woman’s breasts during torture, and although they cause great pain, they can leave permanent scars on the plexus as the torture heals between sessions, reducing the sensitivity of the breasts and nipples to pain. Generally speaking, the only time a woman’s breasts are tortured without interruption is when she is being “tortured” and not allowed time to recover from the torture.
However, due to the steadfastness of the suffering women, there are many examples of “torture by torture” that resulted in failure due to shock, such as the Vietnamese heroine Phan Thi Kham, who was tortured by the torturers with bamboo sticks to her breasts and matches to her anus for three days and nights, and the Fujian martyr Luo Rongde, who was tortured for one day and then had her breasts, navel and pussy burned for one day and night. In the end, they were all in deep coma and the “torture” could not continue.
The interruptions in torture made it impossible to continue. The interruption of torture gave the breasts a chance to heal, and the next time they were tortured, they were less sensitive to pain.
The pig bristle poking the nipple, a unique Chinese torture, is different in that the pig bristle is poked into the nipple of the suffering woman, and the special elasticity of the bristle allows it to bend along the milk ducts, not actually piercing the nerve plexus, but by plucking the nerve to cause both severe pain and unbearable nerve stimulation (similar to the wire brush for the feet), so that the nerve plexus in the breast is not permanently damaged while producing severe pain, so that the suffering woman’s The breasts are not made less sensitive by repeated torture, and she has to endure compound pain under this torture and has difficulty passing out.
On the night of her arrest, Jiangxi heroine Huang Xiuying was stripped naked and tied to a torture bed, and within a few hours she was tortured with pepper water, needles in her fingers, fire in her armpits, and iron on her breasts, etc. The torturers first drove two steel nails into her breasts, and then tortured her by poking her nipples with pig bristles. The bristles were poked into her breasts, and she struggled in extreme pain, her tied wrists and ankles were strangled with ropes. She did not pass out until dawn, when the torturers stopped the torture out of their own fatigue and took her off the bed and into the cell.
Stabbing was used on the female genitalia, usually with instruments that probed the clitoris, labia, and vagina of the woman in question. As the female labia and clitoris have a large number of nerve endings and are extremely sensitive to pain, the torturers often used the same instruments as those used to stab the breasts, torturing the suffering woman in the clitoris and labia area. Liaoning heroine Zhou Hazhen was arrested by the Japanese and tortured with electric shocks, thin ropes to pull her nipples, and incense to burn her pussy, but the most painful memory was when the Japanese finally probed her clitoris, labia and vagina with bamboo sticks. The vaginal piercing instruments were often thicker sticks, and the torturers imitated sexual intercourse by vigorously thrusting into the vagina of the victim.
In the case of the Vietnamese heroine Tran Thi Ly (who was Tran Thi Van’s cousin), the torturers used a wooden stick to penetrate her cunt while burning both breasts with electric fire until she finally fainted. If the torturers used too much force, they sometimes penetrated the vagina and uterus of the suffering woman, causing abdominal infection and death. Scalding was also commonly used in the torture of women’s breasts and pussies. Inexperienced torturers often use a red-hot iron to burn the breasts, nipples, vagina, and other parts of the body, often causing severe burns or even death on the spot.
The experienced torturers would pay attention to the intensity of the torture and only form blistering burns on the breasts and pubic area of the victim, so that the victim would not pass out prematurely, and then cause her more severe pain by tearing the blisters. During the torture of Vietnamese heroine Tran Thanh, the torturers used red-hot iron pliers to pinch up the flesh around her breasts and pussy, deliberately leaving her nipples, clitoris and other more sensitive parts untouched to prolong her suffering under torture and prepare her for further torture.
When Yuan Dagui, a thirty-seven-year-old female martyr from Anhui, was arrested and tortured, the torturers inserted a red-hot iron rod into her vagina three times and burned her to death; Guo Juying, also from Anhui, was forty-six years old when the torturers tortured her for three days and nights with pincers on her nipples and a hot stick on her vagina. The difference in the duration of torture between the two adult female martyrs from Anhui also reflects the different experiences of the torturers.
Because the sexual physiology of women is different from that of men, the anus is another sexually sensitive area of the lower body, in addition to the pussy. For normal men, anal stimulation does not involve sexual desire, but women are different. Therefore, when the female cunt is tortured, there is also the practice of extending the area of torture to the female perineum and anus. The Vietnamese heroine Phan Thi Kham was tortured with bamboo sticks to pierce the breasts and matches to blaze the anus at the same time, which is a variation of this torture method.
The use of abrasive means of female pussy torture is relatively rare, the general practice is to strip the suffering women’s clothes, tied and hung up after the thick hemp rope pocket in the suffering women’s lower body pumping back and forth, with the rough hemp rope violently rubbed her pussy. After a little time, the lower body of the victim will be worn to a bloody mess. The traditional Japanese torture of “wooden horse” is to strip the female victim and let her pussy ride on a wooden frame shaped like a roof, so that her whole body weight will be pressed on the pussy and anus, and to increase the intensity of the torture, usually also in the female victim’s feet hanging weights.
There are similar practices in SM works, but they use wooden boards instead of real torture instruments, which is very different from the real torture. Because of the viciousness of the real torture device is that the structure of the triangular wooden frame so that women in the suffering can not clench their legs, can not rely on the inner thighs to clench the torture device to partially support the weight to alleviate the extreme pain of the pussy and anus.
In addition, the torturers often used some special methods to make the suffering women continue to be in pain after the torture in the process of imprisonment, escort because of the torture injuries, such as forced to walk after inserting foreign objects in the cunt, etc.. Jilin anonymous female martyr Zhang (the prototype of the heroine of the movie “Ice Jindalai”) was arrested at home with her parents-in-law by Japanese gendarmes, and was stripped naked on the spot to suffer, and the Japanese burned her breasts in front of her parents-in-law and children after burning the stove hook red, making her faint twice. The next day the Japanese used a plow to escort the family, and on the way they tied her hands behind her back and stripped her top, forcing her to bare her breasts in the snow and ice, and then inducing her uneducated children to keep sucking on her two tits that had been tortured, causing her great physical and psychological pain.
Electrocution was a very late form of torture, and although the United States began using electricity for executions in the 1890s, its use for torture was very late in becoming widespread. Electrocution emerged in China around the 1930s.
There are two types of electrocution, high-voltage and low-voltage. High-voltage electrocution came much later, and is what we are all familiar with, such as the electric truncheon. The principle is to use a high-voltage coil will be a very small flow of current up to pressure, added to the two electrodes at a very small distance, when the torture of two electrodes at the same time to touch the flesh of the suffering woman, to contact the part to form a current circuit, so that it will be in a very small body surface area caused by high-voltage electric shock, causing intense pain, some times will produce high-temperature electric sparks, electric shock accompanied by burns.
Because the electric flow is very weak, the area of action and the distance is very small, only in the local produce extremely strong stinging pain and shock shock, so can be concentrated on women’s nipples, pussy and other small parts of the extreme pain. Because of the electric shock effect, generally three or four consecutive torture will lead to urinary and fecal incontinence. This electric torture because of the need for special tools, short duration of pain (once the instrument is out of contact with the site, the pain immediately diminished), so in the more severe torture is generally used as an auxiliary torture tool. Because of its late appearance, it is relatively rare in historical records.
Low-voltage electrocution is a circuit of electric current to the larger volume of the body of the female victim, in her flesh to produce electric shocks on nerves, muscles and bones at the same time, rather than only on the surface of the body, especially when the circuit of electric current through the heart, the female victim will cause extremely painful heart paralysis, which will lead to the dysfunction of all organs of the body, when the torture is serious, not only incontinence, men will also bleed semen, women will bleed cunt. When the torture is severe, not only will there be incontinence, but also semen for men and vaginal fluid for women.
The viciousness of low-voltage electrocution is that it can cause prolonged pain to the suffering woman, and the torturer can control the intensity of the torture by adjusting the current and voltage so that the suffering woman does not faint quickly. The voltage of low-voltage electrocution is generally controlled at less than 200 volts, similar to the hand-cranked generator on a magnet telephone, so there are many records of torture with magnet telephones in the old days.
Before the G-M-D Military Intelligence Bureau had American-made electric torture devices, it also used electric torture devices modified from telephone generators. It was also used to torture with mains electricity, generally by connecting one or several large wattage light bulbs in series in the circuit to reduce the intensity of the current. Because when the voltage is higher than 220 volts or the current is greater than 7 amps, the female victim will immediately faint or die immediately. Special electrocution apparatus is not really complicated, the core component is an adjustable resistor.
When using low-voltage electrocution, in order to make the current pass more through the body parts of the female victim, the electrodes are often located at the distal ends of the limbs on both sides of the body, such as the left and right hands, if the current is not intended to pass through the heart of the female victim, the contact will be changed to the side of the body, so that although the female victim’s pain will be longer, but the degree of systemic pain will be reduced.
In the case of women, the torturer will often place the electric contact on both nipples. This can cause a lot of pain, but because the circuit is so close to the heart, a little bit of control over the force of the torture can cause the woman to faint immediately. In the case of Liaoning heroine Zhou Huazhen, the Japanese put two wires on her nipples and she fainted as soon as the electricity was turned on.
When she woke up and continued to suffer, she was electrocuted seven times in a row before the Japanese realized the problem; Vietnamese martyr Tran Thi Van was interrogated on the day she was transferred to the second prison. When she woke up and remained unyielding, the torturer continued to electrocute her nipples with a smaller current, and when she was about to pass out, he lowered the current voltage so that she could not lose consciousness, and then continued the torture, thus torturing her for a whole day with electrocution.
The use of electrocution on the cunt of the suffering woman, sometimes two electrodes connected to her labia, or the two poles connected to her cunt and anus, so that the pain is completely concentrated in her lower body. But such contact causes limited pain because of the small size of the body through which the current circuit passes and because it does not pass through the heart. More often, the two poles were connected to one of her nipples and inserted into her vagina, so that the current could pass directly through the suffering woman’s uterus, causing uterine convulsions more intense than the contractions a woman experiences during childbirth, putting her in great pain that only a woman can experience.
The Vietnamese woman Nguyen Thi Giau was arrested and stripped naked on the first day of her ordeal and electrocuted on her nipples. After two or three hours of continuous torture, she was still unyielding, and then stretched out her limbs and tied to the torture bed, inserted an electrode into her vagina and continued to torture her with electricity for an afternoon, and finally she was in so much pain that she could not even scream, and could only let out a low moan about the torture.
Another effect of electrocution is that when there are other torture wounds on the body of the suffering woman, the electric shock unnaturally intensifies the operation and convulsions of the body’s muscles, nerves, circulation and other systems, which can make the other torture wounds on the body of the suffering woman sharply worse. When the Yunnan martyr Sun Lanying was tortured, she was first stabbed with needles on her ten fingers, then several torturers took turns to burn her breasts and pussy with red-hot iron bars, and then she was subjected to electrocution after a long period of torture. She was tortured for three days and nights, and when the torture stopped, the burns on her breasts and pussy had turned septic, and her fingers were stuck together because of the ulceration of the wounds.
